The purpose of the town was to serve as a stagecoach stop while AZ88 was being built. The population of Tortilla Flat is a whopping 6 people and was established in the early 1900’s. It is generally slow going through this part of the drive as the tiny town of Tortilla Flat approaches 4 miles ahead.
